I've been preaching through Malachi and using that portion of this commentary. It is excellent and I highly recommend using it if you want to do a similar series.

Very helpful

I've referenced the Malachi portion of this volume (not Haggai), but based on that I'm very pleased. The work is scholarly, obviously well-researched, and yet within the main text things like transliteration and footnoting make it pretty accessible. (Hebrew and deeper arguments appear within the footnotes for those so inclined) As an added bonus, there are occasional "Excurses," where the authors include essays on topics related to the text at hand, yet at a depth that likely wouldn't be appropriate for inclusion in the normal commentary context. (For instance, there is one on how the matter of Tithing relates to New Testament times).
This is one of the more helpful commentaries I've consulted on Malachi, and I certainly recommend it.

This has been written to appeal both to the theologian and the layman. The author's in depth research and scholarly notes will be beneficial to the pastor. While the layman will have an appreciation of the understandable presentation of each verse.
