Great Book

I really enjoyed this book. There are some key points about this book, though.
First, the picture on the cover is what you are going to build. It is the same frame style that Sailor Jerry used. So this is a huge selling point for you if you like Sailor Jerry lore.
Second, this book assumes that you have a small lathe, a small milling machine, and a welder. For some this is just not feasible.
Also, this book does not tell you anything about attaching coils, wiring it together, tuning the machine; nothing. This book tells you how to build the frame, and that's basically it. Don't get me wrong, building the frame is a pretty big deal; so saying "that's basically it" is not being insulting. I just expected for the author to lead us through building the entire machine. You know, wrapping coils, soldering the capacitor, tuning the armature, etc.
I honestly believe this book would have been that much more awesome if it told you from A-Z how to build the frame (which it does), and finish the book with a working machine, hand wrapped coils, capacitor from radio shack, possibly a homemade armature spring, tuned and ready to tattoo. Honestly, if the author wrote a second edition to this book, covering those topics, I would re-buy the book! Of course, the purists would say that a professional tattooer wouldn't need coil-wrapping instructions; that doesn't matter. A tattoo machine building book should cover it.
I don't want to rag on this book too hard; that's just one part that really bothered me about it. Other than that, this book is fantastic. It is well written, the measurements are all accurate, the explanations are great. He covers tool use very well. If you like small, accurate, metal work, you will love this book.

This book along with some very well respected builders will most certainly make my machines even better than they already are. A must have in the library of any builder.
