Dr. Mary-Lou Galicianis a media literacy advocate who lectures and consults nationally and internationally. She is frequently interviewed and cited by the mass media and is Head of Media Analysis & Criticism in the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Arizona State University, where she created the popular course, Sex, Love, & Romance in the Mass Media. A former newspaper columnist, public television producer/director and nighttime talkshow host, and national marketing and advertising executive, she earned her doctorate in 1978 from Memphis State University (now University of Memphis), with a clinical residency in Human Values & Medical Ethics from University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences. She was the University Fellow in Broadcasting at Syracuse University (M.S., 1969) and a Conolly College Scholar at Long Island University (B.A., 1966), and she was named a national 2005-2006 AEJMC/ASJMC Journalism Leadership in Diversity (JLID) Fellow.

Huge book with beautiful images and clear informative text

This is a huge book, the biggest I have ever seen. I thought I was buying a Hubble picture book (for a bargain price), but as I dip into it I am pleasantly surprised. It's not a quicky Hubble book, but a well laid out, well written book combining beautiful Hubble images with information about the images and the Hubble telescope. It's not 100% Hubble images. In some cases Hubble images have been combined with those of the (infrared) Spitzer Space Telescope and the Chandra X-ray Observatory to give a very wide spectrum image. In the planetary section Hubble images are supplemented with close up images from various space probes.

The text by Giles Sparrow is extensive and informed, both astronomically and about the telescope. Attention to detail is shown by a little code next to the Hubble images indicating which version of the telescope took the image. The telescope has been rebuilt in space five times over its long lifetime.

Most of the images in this very large book (many covering two pages) are nicely printed and breathtaking.

Gorgeous book! I bg ught this second hand i believe for 6 bucks. Well it looks brand new. The information and images are AMAZING!! If you are a buff like i am about physics, quantum theory, and the cosmos this is great for your collection and you are recycling=0 Great packaging to protect the book. Fast service! About the Author
Robert Moriarty was born in New York state in 1946. He began training as a military pilot in 1965 and became the youngest Naval Aviator during the Vietnam War in 1966. With two years in Vietnam and some 832 missions in combat, he left the Marine Corps in 1970. He worked in computers for a few years before beginning a 2nd career as a ferry pilot delivering small airplanes all over the world. He made over 240 ocean crossings mostly in single engine airplanes. He and his wife of 25 years were computer consultants and began one of the earliest online computer retail outlets in 1995 before retiring in 2000. He began another career running a financial website in 2001 specializing in resource companies. He continues to travel the world looking for the next great mineral discovery and writes in his spare time.

This is a good book!

Robert Moriarty has written a good book based on the common sense learned from decades of experience. He does not intend to make friends or sugarcoat his analysis. He wants to help readers make money investing, but far more importantly, he wants to minimize losses by following basic logic. As he says, "learn to ignore the experts, the gurus, and other fools."

Read the book!

It is easy to read, logical, and rather cynical, based on years of experience watching people do stupid things. The crowd is almost always wrong at turning points. We know this and mostly we forget it. Moriarty reminds us again and again. Look at sentiment, ignore the politicians and experts, especially those with an agenda, and remember that markets always correct and regress to the mean.

Be suspicious of politicians and experts - he gives many examples and is not worried about alienating people. He calls it as he sees it - not everyone will agree.

But the most important chapter, in his opinion and mine, is the chapter "When to Sell." This chapter deserves a second reading.

In short, this book is excellent common sense advice on simple ways to reduce your losses and increase your investing profits.

Absolutely worth reading. Some of it sounds like crusty old Bob which is ok. Age and wisdom come together when you have a brain. I got one real valuable pearl of advice from his wisdom on how to take a profit from a winning stock. This solved a big problem for me right now. His advice on avoiding listening to shills and fools is spot on. Buy this book. Brian

A true gem in an industry filled with people who make money by telling you what you want to hear, Bob tells it like it is.

A great book that really cuts to the chase about how to speculate properly in the natural resource sector. Bob shares his accumulated wisdom about things that really take years of experience to figure out. The junior resource sector is different than general stock investing and knowing when to get out is arguably more important than knowing when to get in. A true gem in an industry filled with people who make money by telling you what you want to hear or by simply drawing lines that go up in a chart projection. Thanks Bob.
